This morning I was just about to open up a new Miswaak package and I thought to myself that this might be of interest to some of you urban peppers who like fresh breath and your survivalist who wish or need to save their water but want to practice healthy oral hygiene.
I started using a Miswaak when I was station in the Middle East and have been using one regularly. I never thought of it as a tool for surviving until after reading some articles on long-term water storage.
The Miswaak is a tree-twig used for brushing and cleansing the teeth is made from a twig of the Arak tree (Salvadora persica). The chemical and phytochemical analysis of Salvadora persica, there is carbohydrates and/or trimethylamine; an alkaloid which may effectively be salvadorine; chlorides; sulfur; terpenes; vitamin C; glycosides; large amounts of fluoride and silica; small amounts of tannins, saponins, flavonoids and sterols.
While there are many written medical benefits for using a Miswaak I primary use it a supplement toothbrush and breath freshener. Because it is hard to get to a toothpaste and toothbrush after a meal sometimes. A Miswaak maybe a good addition for your EDC.
